Oboe d´amore is made of wood with metallic mechanism and it has, as the oboe, a double reed as source of sound. The mouthpiece is formed by two opposing reeds. The oboe is one of the oldest instrument types.

It is a D-instrument, the melody written should be transposed a minor third down. The instrument is often used in old music (e.g. J.S. Bach).
