Cornet

The cornet is made of brass with a metal cup-shaped mouthpiece. It is tuned in Bb, which means melodies written for it must be transposed up one whole step.

The tone of cornet changes noticeably in the higher register. It is a superb attack and crescendo instrument with a flexible and nimble tone.

Recommended combinations:

Trumpet with flute.
Trumpet, moving between oboe and clarinet.
Trumpet with trombone.
Trumpet with oboe.

Problematic combinations:

Use with clarinet may be difficult.
Used with French horn may produce an undesired tone.
