| Snare drum |
|
The shell of the snare drum can be made of wood or metal with two drumheads made of either calf skin or plastic. Beneath the lower skin are metal snares which produce a rattling sound when placed against the lower drumhead. Drum sticks or brushes are used to play the snare drum. Its sound is characteristically sharp and it dies quickly.
