The gong is a flat profile metal plate forged of bronze. In the middle of the plate there is a boss. A tuned gong can produce a definable pitch. It can be played with drum sticks, different mallets. brushes, contrabass bow, or even by scratching with a metal stick. When desired, the instrument can produce a very powerful and long-lasting sound, when not muted. Listen to the audio samples:
