The marimba, xylophone and vibraphone each consist of tuned bars and resonators. An arch-like bow of resonators has been placed under the tuned bars to enhance the sound.

The tuned bars of marimba are made of wood and the instrument sounds as written. It is played with either 2 or 4 (or even 6) mallets made of wood, plastic or rubber.
