TPO's PREMIERE WEB-CONCERT WITNESSED BY AN INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE
The first web-concert of Turku Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) gathered a
considerable amount of international attention. The web counter was hit by
almost 2000 unique connections from 19 countries. These countries were Finland,
Sweden, USA, Japan, Netherlands, Italy, Australia, Norway, Russia, Great
Britain, Austria, Spain, Czech, Greece, South-Africa, Peru, Slovenia, Portugal
and Hungary. It is the concert arrangers estimate that over 4000 people were
actually online during this broadcast. The concert will be available in the
e-concerthouse archive in near future.
The concert was conducted by Sasha Mäkilä. The concert programme consisted of:
Ludwig Van Beethoven: Symphony No.6
Dmitri Shostakovich: Suite For Jazz Orchestra No. 1
Maurice Ravel: Bolero
The web services are a part of TPO's project in 2011 called Sävelsilta -
musiikillisia kohtaamisia merten yli (Tonal bridge - musical meetings across
the seas). Already the first concert, an HD-quality broadcast, was realizing
the main goals of the project, namely to increase social connectivity and
availability. For example, at the Rokua Rehabilitation Center a large number of
music lovers attended the concert, which was made available by a laptop, a
video projector and a silver screen.
The concert was viewable at both full HD-quality and webcast quality (500
kbps). It was done in cooperation with Turku Adult Education Center. The
cameras were directed by Jari Kivimäki. Ilmari Mäenpää of E-concerthouse was in
charge of overall production.
Next concert by TPO will be on friday, the 3rd of September, 2010. The
orchestra will perform the Violin Concerto by Jean Sibelius with violinist Ilja
Gringolts as soloist. The orchestra will be conducted by Pietari Inkinen. The
concerts (and other cultural programs they may be combined with) will be made
available for viewing without charge.
