Culture in Turku is greatly indebted to its patrons over the centuries. One recent manifestation of this fine tradition is the Piano Concerto by Jukka Linkola, a European Capital of Culture year commission. The music is a fascinating blend of different stylistic ideas. Also fascinating in its own way is Schönberg’s return to tonality in his Chamber Symphony No. 2. There is laughter despite the tears in the poignant tale of Petrushka and its vibrant, colourful music.
